Stoke Dream Team, (must have seen players play), - Part 3 -Left Midfield
Having previously looked at Goalkeeper, Defence, and right midfield, it is now time to look at left midfield and the candidates.
Mickey Thomas, was the first left midfielder I can remember, he went on to have 2 spells at Stoke, tigerish in the tackle, creative, and also a good goalscorer, who would chip in. Mickey was a crowd favourite and went on to appear in 103 games, scoring 21 goals.
The next candidate is Peter Beagrie, Beagrie was signed from Sheffield United in the summer of 1988. Beagrie was a talented winger, who had a trick and a good goalscoring record, regularly he would beat his opposition full back 2-3 times, while waiting for a colleague to support him. Beagrie would go on to be a crowd favourite before being sold at a cut down price of £750,000 (at the time the highest outgoing price for a potter). It was at a time when Stoke needed money, and unfortunately Stoke could not resist such a price, just a reminder of his ability can be seen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SATyQkLjPeU.
Nigel Gleghorn was signed from Birmingham in 1992 a signing from the manager at the time @LouMacari10, who knew him from there time at Birmingham together. Foghorn could have been a candidate in both the left midfield and central midfield position both positions he was very comfortable in, and was very good on the ball, with his wand of a left foot, and chipped in with many goals. In 166 games he scored 26 goals, and was a good servant at the club, and after his career became an excellent co commentator on Radio Stoke.
Peter Hoekstra, was one of the most entertaining players of previous years, Hoekstra was an ex Holland International, who had played 5 times for his country. He was signed from the mighty Ajax, and at 28 years old, was a coo at the time. Unfortunately for Hoekstra, he had suffered bad injuries, and can be the only reason he did not play at the top level in England. He had pace, vision, and unbelievable skill, he could chip penalties, beat men with ease. 3 games spring to mind when thinking of Hoesktra, (2 at home to Reading, they must have hated him!), including a hat trick, and the third at Watford when Stoke were battling to stay up, he scored 2 goals, 1 which had to be seen to be believed. Unfortunately his career was cruely cut short of injury at 31, but will never be forgotten. The hat trick against Reading can be seen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdYXwr5MWtY, and the goals against Watford can be seen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FkB5jLlM3w.
Matthew Etherington @mattyethers, was our first real left wing signing of the Prenuer League, Ethers was signed from West Ham for £2 million, in January 2009, our first season, and was a key figure in us staying up that season, our first ever in the premier league. Etherington had a reputation for being a fast skillfull winger, and this is exactly what we would come to see, he would beat players for pure speed, an out and out winger, who was also good at crossing the ball, and put in some great free kicks four our artilliary of giants to try to score from. Etherington also had a keen eye for goal scoring 13 goals in 152 games for the potters, including some wonderful individual goals, Spurs away comes to mind, not to forget an unforgettable goal for all potters fans at Wembley v Bolton, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YaB79GjuyM, where he was named man of the match. Etherington was very unlucky not to be picked for England where he was watched and considered before a series of hamstring and back injuries taking its toll. Etherington was a true Stoke legend.
Marko Arnautovic @MArnautovic10, was the last of the premier league left wingers. Arnie signed from Werder Bremen, in 2013, has been a revelation, in particularly this season where he has added goals to his undoubted talents. On his day he was the most talented footballer, and one of the best in the premier league on his day. He has been unbelievable and Manchester City and Manchester United amongst others have felt his wrath. Unfortunately the way he left the club to his dream move to West ham, followed by his dream move to China, will always taint his ability in many stoke fans eyes.

So its voting time, we have the past Hoekstra was a true legend in my eyes, however Etherington and Arnie have both been fantastic for different reasons. However without the impact of Ethers at the time he played, I dont think we would have ever seen Arnie at the Brit/Bet 365. So for this reason alone, I am picking ethers.
So the team now looks like
Begovic
Dixon
Higginbotham
Huth
Shawcross
Chamberlain
Etherington
What do you guys think, let me know.
